Our guides in Galapagos

In the past there were three classifications of Galapagos Naturalist Guides, I, II and III.

For political and technical reasons this has now been changed and new guides, even if they hold a degree in science, must begin their “Galapagos career” as a “Naturalist I”. Hence, the previous classification loses its technical meaning.

Galapagos Best has responded to this new challenge by carefully assessing its own priorities. What makes our guides “good”? Even though academic knowledge is essential, we believe there is even more to to choosing the guides who will make your vacation as special and memorable as possible.

We insist on the following qualities:

  • sound moral values
  • communication and organizational skills
  • years and breadth of experience
  • conservationis attitude
  • aquatic abilities
  • safety know-how
  • boat-handling
  • languages (at least bilingual Spanish and English)
  • true leadership

All these and other gifts, must be taken into consideration. It is not during training days but under stress that true human endurance shines through. Galapagos Best Naturalists are hand-picked veterans who have proved themselves during extreme situations and showed the kind of stamina and human capacity that carried the day.

Trust and support them. We do.
