Festival de Cusco
Each year, there is a big concert in Cusco in the Andes of Peru. It is a big event organized by “Cerveza Cusqueña”(a Peruvian beer company), called the “Festival de Cusco”.
It is usually celebrated at the beginning of May each year, and many very famous singers and groups have peformed in the mega-concert. This concert represents one of the best in all Peru. About 30 thousand people, from home and abroad, go to this concert every year.
The concert takes place for two days (Saturday and Sunday), with participation by at least 10 singers and groups from Latin America and from all over the world, playing different types of music like Andean music, rock and pop, Peruvian music, salsa, merengue, Brazilian music, romantic music, etc.
The Corpus Christi Festival in Cusco
The Festival of Corpus Christi is a very typical religious festival of the City of Cusco.
It is celebrated every year at the beginning of June, starting with the celebrations of the city; the celebration takes place in the “Plaza de Armas” (the main square of Cusco) and it is a procession of about thirteen statues of saints around the square.
Organized groups carry the statues from each temple of the saints. This is a very colorful festival, and in as well as watching the procession of the saints you can try really good dishes and typical food such as “Chiri Uchu” - a plate made with “cuy” (guinea pig), chicken, toasted corn, cheese, special herbs and other Andean ingredients.
