What to see in Patagonia

In Patagonia, you can see Megellanic penguins, Southern elephant seals, Southern right whales, giant conifers like the araucaria tree, birds like Darwin rheas (ostriches), armadillos and more. Can you imagine being at the foot of Perito Moreno Glacier, the second largest on earth, driving through the Patagonia, landing in Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego?

If we talk about Patagonia, we talk about Nature.

With a great number of National Parks and Reserves, Patagonia offers the tourist an unsurpassable number of places to visit. Its fantastic cliffs, washed by the Argentine Atlantic coast, shelter an infinite number of sea birds including penguins; whales, seals and sea lions. The coldest waters from the Pacific Ocean bathe the southern coast of the neighboring country, Chile.

In Patagonia you can also see:

  • deserted pampas only populated less than a century ago, where few animals can survive, among them grey and red foxes, armadillo, and south American ostrich.
  • the Andes, where the lords of the sky, the condors, rule. Pumas, guanacos and hue mules (south American deer) inhabit its valleys.
  • the rivers, where you may see the much sought after Patagonian trout
  • ancient unique trees known as the Alerces
  • petrified forests that recall remote times
  • fossils from the biggest dinosaurs in the world
  • glaciers and river basins, among them the Perito Moreno Glacier, unique in the world on advancing into land, and every few years time we can see the spectacle of its massive walls breaking down
  • mountains that beg to be climbed or simply admired, not only because of their beauty but also their technical difficulty.

For all this, Patagonia means nature, and it is in here, magnificent and eternal, waiting for your visit.

Marine Life

Marine fauna spotting is the main activity in Puerto Madryn and the surrounding area.

One can view a wide variety and great number of specimens of marine fauna from the coast, enormous whales, only a few meters away, elephant seals and sea lions, penguins, birds of all kinds, guanacos (wild llamas), and other land-based species mill around this 360 hectare Nature Reserve, practically its only inhabitants and the "stars" of its stage.

There is a wide variety of opportunities to observe two of the most fascinating wildlife spectacles in the world: the Punta Tombo Magellan penguin rookery (September through March) and the viewing of the Southern right whale in Peninsula Valdés (June through December).
